Strange Addiction

Oh my holy hannah I am addicted...to Friday Night Lights. For those of you who don't know of the phenomenon, it is (well was...no longer on the air) a show about a ficitional small town in Texas and their football obsession. I don't like football and I have never been to Texas (trying to make it to Austin one of these days to visit Shaina), but I am OBSESSED.

I don't think this addiction is very healthy, but what addiction is? I am currently on Episode 19 of the first season and I am itching to get home to feed my unhealthy habit. This same thing happened with One Tree Hill and it wasn't pretty. Just picture me and Brian glued to the computer screen whilst we down Thai food...mmm!

Since moving to NYC, I am finding that I am a little lazier than I used to be. I think it has to do with the fact that NYC is all about convenience. You want take out - why not get delivery? Grocery shopping is a pain - order it online. Laundry is just plain annoying - send it out. I used to love doing laundry, really I did. But now I find it to be a serious process. I have the hardest time deciding whether or not to suck it up and go down to the basement to clean my clothes or walk down the street to get it done. When I send it out, it comes back so perfectly folded, yet my wallet is a wee bit lighter. Sadly, sending my clothes out is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me.

Since meeting a guy at my friend's wedding who has a pet pig, I haven't really gotten the idea of owning one out of my head. Honestly, I would never be able to have a pig and one smushed face is enough for me at the moment, but a girl can dream right?

I am particularly obsessed with micro mini pigs.

They are the cutest things ever and, you know me, I am fond of the "ugly but cute" look. Hopefully that excludes my taste in guys, but doesn't mean it hasn't happened.

Anywho, long story short...when I one day have a farm with lots of acres, I am getting me a micro mini pig!

out with the old...

in with the new!

This weekend, I dedicated a lot of time to repurposing an old desk. The desk was a dark wood with oriental-like handles. It was pretty, but does not match my decor. I decided to paint the desk a neutral color (white) with some leftover paint. I also replaced the handles with pulls that are a brushed nickel finish. They were about 5 bucks from Home Depot (my fave!). So all together, this little project took 10 bucks, a sore arm and paint I already had - whoop whoop! I'd love to know what you guys think. Oh and I am going to hang the poster up - just can't do it on the weekends (apt rule...)

2011 in review...

Wow - what a year it has been for me. I feel like so much has happened in the past 365 days that I should at least highlight some of it. Here we go...

1. Rented my first apartment...broke the lease after 9 months



2. Survived the snowpocalypse that shut down all of Atlanta...totally ate it on the concrete the second I left the house after 4 solid days of confinement




3. Made lots of mistakes...loved a little...learned a lot


4. Stood by my best friend as I watched her marry her best friend




5. Sold two necklaces at a real store




6. Became an aunt



7. Got a job and moved to NYC (all within 10 days)




8. Renovated an apartment

9. Lost 20 pounds - gained 10 back

10. Met some amazing people and can't wait to meet more...

thanksgiving

Hi there...I am alive, I promise, just haven't been a very good blogger these days. I finally feel organized now that the kitchen in my apartment is finally done - water gets hooked up this week!

In other news, Thanksgiving was wonderful. My sisters came in from Boston for the very long weekend and it was lovely.

I hope everyone got off to a good week after the holiday. The gym certainly kicked my butt last night, but I needed it.

SANTA-PUG IS HERE!



Last week, Lu got to spend the day at doogy daycare. I usually do this once or twice a month so that she gets to see her friends and socialize (insert judgement as I am a crazy dog woman - just go with it). When we lived in Atlanta, she went to Dog Days about 3 times a week (miss you guys!!). It took time to find a place just as amazing, but after searching far and wide, we found one that is awesome.

We love love love lover her new place in NYC, but since she is a little older now (1 year and 10 months to be exact), she is fine on her own in the apartment most days. Anywho, long story short, at daycare last week, Gloria and Quentin took some amazing photos of lil nugget [see above] for their holiday card.

I'm thinking Lu has a career in modeling...yes?

I think I'll go to Boston...

This weekend I headed to Boston for Jenny's 21st birthday. I am officially in love with the city (minus the pop-up snow blizzard).

The weekend consisted of Houstons (yum!), Newbury Street and finally getting my much-needed winter coat. Overall, it was a wonderful weekend!

Oh and I am also officially obsessed with Jenny and Rachel's dining hall--AMAZING! They even have lactaid AND soy milk--I know, I am a weirdo, but I love it!
